Weimaraner - A hunting dog with charm...
Advice on correctly caring for a Weimaraner
Breed Introduction
The Weimaraner, also affectionately called Weims, is an elegant, aristocratic but demanding dog with an offbeat sense of humor. This complex dog was a highly sought-after breed in its native Germany for his distinctive appearance and hunting ability. Weims also make an excellent companion as they are all-round dogs who love nothing more than to lie at your feet or follow you through the house and hence are often referred to as 'shadow.'. They are friendly, and loving dogs, but are also vigilant enough to make excellent guard dogs. Because of their quick wit and independent mind, Weims need a very confident owner. They are a very dominant breed and due to this are not recommended for the first-time dog owners. They need training at an early age to prevent behavior problems like chewing, house-soiling etc. If they are properly trained and socialized when young, they will get along with other house pets, but they do not like strange dogs. Weims need plenty of exercise and mental stimulation as they have a great deal of energy and stamina, otherwise they're likely to become nervous and high-strung.
