The Pug, also referred to as 'Multum in Parvo,' which means 'big dog in a little body.' is a sturdy, compact dog with a happy-go-lucky attitude and boundless enthusiasm. This small animated, peppy member of the Toy group is known for his great sense of humor and is sure to keep you laughing. They are loyal, loving dogs who bond closely with their family. Pugs are very intelligent and clever, but they have an independent mind of their own and can be willful, which can make training a challenge. However, despite this their lively, sociable, nature means that the Pug is an adaptable companion for young and old alike. In fact, he thrives on human companionship. They can behave impeccably with both children and visitors and also get along well with other house pets if trained and socialized properly. Pugs cannot withstand extremely hot or cold weather and should be kept indoors at a comfortable temperature when the mercury fluctuates.

- Any back yard you do have is secure and has highly visible fencing
- If you are able to spend at least 45-60 minutes total per day for the feeding, exercising, training, and grooming of your dog
- You want a smooth coated dog
- As long as you don't mind a dog that sheds all year round
- No-one in your house (or who visits regularly) is less than 5 years old
- You have plenty of time and persistence to housebreak your dog
- If you want a dog whose activity level is sedentary (e.g. a dog that is happy simply lying around most of the time)
- You want a dog who's generally easy to train (and takes the average amount of time)
- You'd prefer a non-aggressive dog who doesn't bark very much
