Chinese Shar-Pei - Who says wrinkles can't be beautiful?
Care and training of the Chinese Shar-Pei
Breed Introduction
With its adorable wrinkles, the Shar Pei was originally bred to guard, herd, hunt and fight. Now, it's one of the most popular and beloved Chinese imports in America. This ancient breed is calm and dignified, but can tend to be somewhat aloof and snobbish. Shar Peis have a strong personality, dominant temperament and independent mind. However, they are a protective family member and a true devotee to their adopted 'pack.' They make an excellent watchdog and guard dog. Due to their strong will, early training and socialization is essential, and they need an owner who has strong leadership qualities. The Shar Pei is a quick learner, so training them is easy, however they can sometimes have a stubborn streak, so would be owners need to be aware of this. This breed is not recommended for family with young children.
