American English Coonhound - Grace and Strength Combined
American English Coonhound: Specific Care for the Breed
Breed Introduction
This descendent of the English Foxhound was originally bred to use as a dual-purpose dog who would hunt fox by day and raccoon by night. The American English Coonhound is a strong, graceful athlete known for his tremendous speed, endurance and excellent voice in the field. Also known as Virginia Hound, this swift, competitive dog needs plenty of daily exercise both to help him stay in top condition and to prevent him becoming frustrated and destructive. They will bark and bay at home, so owning an American English Coonhound is not recommended if you have neighbors close by. On the plus side, he is a sociable fellow, and happily gets along long with people and other dogs.
