This video covers the different types of treats or baits you can offer your dog while training him. Treats are used for 2 purposes. First is knowns as luring or baiting which is holding the treat in your hand and moving it around in front of the dog to guide him into doing a command. Second is rewarding where you use some kind of treat to let the dog know that he has done a good job. Rewarding always comes after the dog has successfully done a command. Remember that for non-food driven dogs, other rewards such as praise or clicker should be used. Training treats that have strong smell should be preferably used for training. Soft treats are better for the purpose of luring. Training treats should be small enough for the dog to finish in 1 or 2 bites. When it comes to reward, there are several different kinds of treats you can offer a dog such as clicker reward, training biscuits and training sausage.
